Yacca Paddock 2003 & 2004 Adelaide Hills Shiraz Tannat

“Spicy fragrant nose with a hint of liquorice, and a delectable toasty overtone – the palate long and savoury with succulent fruit characters.”

For filmmaker and winemaker alike, casting is an elusive blend of chemistry and balance. Venerable Shiraz presents itself its well-loved performance of fruit sweetness and soft middle-palate, here magnificently highlighted by the brooding intensity and structure of our new discovery Tannat.

Yacca Paddock 2004 Adelaide Hills Dolcetto

“Fine on the palate, this is a medium weight with a fresh lingering finish – perfect with pasta or fish, BBQ, stir fry, anything!”

The hunt for the perfect location is a filmmaker’s obsession. This led us to Kuitpo (‘ky-po’) in the Adelaide Hills were we planted 60 acres of grazing land with vines, under the guiding hand of master vigneron Geoff Hardy. Another 60 acres we kept as natural bushland with its kangaroos and myriad of fauna and flora, including the prolific yacca, the native South Australian grass tree. Among the grape selection, we chose to plant some Dolcetto, a popular Italian variety which loved the cooler climate of the region.

Winemaker Ben Riggs performed the black arts of his alchemy on our handpicked vintage. The success of ‘Shine’ showed us how films can be a way of making dreams come true. What better proof than Yacca Paddock Vineyards!
